The Talk Evangelist
Gitikka has been awarded by EEMA, the Indian live industry's apex body, the Best Anchor Female India Award at the EEMAX Spotlight Awards two years in a row, in 2018 and 2017. She has been named Best Emcee India at the first edition of the Live Quotient Awards and was also awarded the Best Emcee Award at the BW Applause Awards, presented by the Business World Group. She has been honored with the Bharat Nirman Award for her contribution to anchoring in India.
Gitikka Ganju Dhar's timeless appeal as an anchor can be best experienced live, whether you watch her talking the stage or observe her expounding words during a shoot, you can sense the magic in the air. Now counting her 18th year as a Television Anchor, Live Host and Content Writer, she is one of India's leading live talents and an orator of distinguished reputation.
Late APJ Abdul Kalam, the former President of India once remarked, "She is an exceptionally talented anchor."
India’s most versatile anchor, Gitikka’s career is truly the hallmark of excellence. The intellectual quotient she brings to the job is unparalleled. Her sheer talent and skill are admired by one and all. She is idolized by the young blood entering the Indian live industry. In a category wherein the shelf life of an anchor is conventionally a few years, she has sailed on, delivering stellar work year after year, admired and applauded by all. She is a veteran of more than two dozen television shows and more than three thousand live events across the globe.
Her spontaneity, dynamic personality, vibrance, the ability to rule the stage, her audience too and her legendary professionalism mark her a cut above the rest. Whether a corporate, government, lifestyle, sport or social event she always raises the bar and takes proceedings to different level altogether. Over the years, despite being pampered with captions like, The Queen of Indian Stage, A Talk Evangelist and the Sachin Tendulkar of live hosts in India, she remains pragmatic and grounded. When the role of an anchor is crucial to the execution of an event or show, she is chosen to value-add to the proceedings.
She is also a sought after Content Curator, Moderator and Writer and is India's preferred anchor for content based summits and government events that involve the presence of Heads of State. Gitikka is also regularly seen as actor in advertisements and films. Hailing from Kashmir, now based in Mumbai, she is mother to a daughter, wife to a senior banker and daughter of a retired Indian Armed Forces officer and Economics Professor. A trained Bharatnatyam dancer, she comes armed with a degree in Business Management from Delhi University and a post-graduate degree in Mass Communication from The Mass Communication Research Centre, Jamia. She was consulting faculty for the subject of anchoring with ISOMES, Delhi. Gitikka is also a prolific writer for leading industry platforms and publications.

TELEVISION SHOWS HOSTED
I live life on my terms because, I talk. I am fortunate that my passion is my profession. I am at a point in this journey where I have the lucky privilege to explore my craft. My ambition is not to merely achieve success, it is to achieve excellence and thus command respect. My humble desire is to leave behind a legacy in my chosen vocation. In the years ahead, I hope to further learn, hone, innovate & explore my craft. Till I feel the fire in my belly, till I am raring to go, till I need to execute magic, till I need to talk- I WILL. Female anchors in India need to be liberated from the bondage of age & looks. We live in a world where Billy Crystal at the age of 67 hosts the Oscars, Ellen DeGeneres at the age of 57 hosts one of the most popular television shows in the world & Oprah Winfrey at the age of 61 is one of the richest entertainers in the world! Still talking, all, still at the top of their game. I have a dream. I hope I can make true the vision that I have for myself and the category I represent.

And then there are #events that are beyond important. With no room for imperfection. You drive yourself harder than hardest. And begin to tire. And then comes a point, just before those steps up the stage, when you handover-to the star above, and hope it will ting for you. And that is why I say, events are #magic. Because, beyond a point, it is not in your hands. But to come to that point- #DoYourBest

"For me, it is of utmost importance to #look and #behave the part, whether it suits my brand image or not. Every #event has a specific #character & feel. An #anchor must understand the show director's vision & #customize his or her look, delivery and body language to suit it. An event is not a platform to advertise your skill."It is the client's domain.

The microphone is a great buffer between an anchor & the audience. You talk, it translates your sound into magical waves. It is this exaggerated projection that is an anchor's biggest support. Try speaking to a room full of people, sans mikey, make-up & margarita. Sans the projection. It is as basic as it gets. And the only anchor you have there is you.

More than the commercials of travel, stay & fees, the reason the same anchor is preferred to host 2/3 days of a multi-day event is the bond that is forged between the host & the audience. The first step to forging this bond is that they must feel respect for your work, whether humour, straight-speak or random tittle-tattle. Affection for the host, bonhomie, only then, automatically follows & is authentic. #talkthestageCOLLOQUY.

For the first time ever People spend years and years creating a body of work. A reputation. It is the sacred duty of a #host to introduce them in words worthy of their achievements. Research is mandatory. Every introduction must be approached with respect. #formalforum.

Is the #MC, male or female, supposed to primarily be eye-candy for the audience? I have often given it a thought. And then, I listen to #RoshanAbbas talk. Ofcourse, he is good-looking. But am I looking, or am I just listening..with rapt attention. If the audience is more ears than eyes, you will talk till you stand.

"An anchor is the #anchor of a ship named-event. It is a huge responsibility, a delicious opportunity & a magical live experience. I am fortunate to be entrusted with some very important babies, that I try to take to pride rock and present with true passion to an awaiting audience."

25% of what I say on events comes from listening to the speakers, sitting backstage. For a live host, to listen is as important an ability, as is the ability to speak.
October 20th 2015.
We all get this urge. To burst our brilliance onto stage. To show-off, our talent. I try and remember..there is the brand, the product, the chief-guest and all, all who must seem bigger than me, the host. To curtail a bit, to hold back a bit, to stem a bit. For the real purpose of the show is them, not me.

Yes, footwear can sometimes be a heel-deal breaker on stage. If I cannot have a natural stance while walking around, talking on stage, half the fun is gone. #Practical over #style every single time.

Traditionally, for an #anchor, it was important to read everyday. To read on a wide range of topics. Nowadays, it is also important to view content on various media. And to travel to experience. It is what goes in, that comes out.
